It’s these kinds of distractions that Volvo’s XC60 was built for. That’s because this particular Volvo pays attention to the car ahead, even when you’re already glancing some other way. It doesn’t sound a charming chime reminding you to pay attention. It stops the car dead in its tracks. It’s called City Safety and it comes standard in every XC60. If you haven’t already heard, the XC60 is Volvo’s latest SUV. It looks like a smaller and sexier version of the XC90. And that long LED strip of a tail light will be the first to catch your eye. Inside is an interior that looks more like a design firm’s office than a car. A palette of materials like black and cream leather, and aluminum and wood trim create that corner office feel. The driver has the best seat in the house, with easy-to-read dials and the entire center stack angled toward him. The instrument cluster uses two dials with integrated LCD displays. Everything from an open door to each tire’s pressure is displayed here. The exquisite wood trimmed center stack features buttons grouped according to their use, for less fiddling and quicker pampering. The humble looking slot of a CD player can hold up to six discs and routes sounds through eight speakers. It can even connect to your phone wirelessly to display messages or dial contacts, all hands free. When loading, the rear cargo area is more than enough for two weeks’ worth of groceries. A cargo cover can be pulled out to cover it all. Lift the cargo area floor to reveal a few more compartments to hide more sensitive items. If that’s not enough, the rear seats can be folded flat for even bigger, bulkier loads.
